Today Dr. Mooney (the pastor, also a prof at CBU) spoke on John 8:31-47. It was amazing, he spoke more or less on sin and it was so good to hear truth and wisdom, so many times people speak on their thoughts and not what it says in the bible, I have only heard Dr. Mooney speak what's in the Bible. Since we have many older people in the church, they mix the music, some more contemporary songs with some Hymn's, it's amazing how you forget how much meaning some hymn's have. One of the Hymn's we sang today was, I'd Rather Have Jesus. Gorwing up in a BBFI church, you learn a lot of Hymn's, but don't understand the meaning. And now going back to some of those Hymn's and finally understanding...Such Bold words... Oh, we also sang Great is the Lord.. you know Michael W. Smith made it popular in like the 80's.. I started to sniker when we sang that because it reminded me of when I was younger with the crieglows(close family friends) in their van with 7 or 8 (They had 5 and my family with 3) kids singing on the top of their lungs to Michael W. Smith.. Good times, good times... Well I thought I would leave the lyrics to
I'd Rather Have Jesus:
I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold;
I’d rather be His than have riches untold;
I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands;
I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced hand
Refrain:
Than to be the king of a vast domain,
Or be held in sin’s dread sway;
I’d rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today.
I’d rather have Jesus than men’s applause;
I’d rather be faithful to His dear cause;
I’d rather have Jesus than worldwide fame;
I’d rather be true to His holy name
He’s fairer than lilies of rarest bloom;
He’s sweeter than honey from out the comb;
He’s all that my hungering spirit needs;
I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead.
Philippians 3:8
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
P.S. I took another quiz, here it is:
