My thoughts on College Week at Glorieta Conference Center

So I'm finishing my week up at Glorieta. Besides being really long drive from the promise land (California), it is really nice here! It's kind of like big bear... Well except there is a thunder storm almost every night here.

I'm not exagerating when I say it feels like I am in a very different culture! From the music, to the morning chapel speaker and break out sessions, even to the food! Can you imagine having an option of buscuits and gravey for breakfast? EVERY DAY! Gross! The only buscuits and gravy I eat are my mom's because they really are the best! But anyways. I will be going in order to why college week has been so different and why the south is kind of a crooked place.

I'll start off by saying it feels like I have been attending a jr high/high school camp all this week. Not kidding! When The Worship band makes you lift your hands and spin around to the song "marvelous light", to the 'When I say Jesus, you say Christ" yelling they were wanting COLLEGE students to get involved in. C'mon... Really is this your culture? This would never fly at a college conference in Califonia! The music really hasn't been great either, except one morning with this praise band from texas, they brought it!

The mornign chapel speaker was hit and miss. I mean he was good, but you could tell that he was really preaching to the students that were from the south. Really! From the jokes that us californians weren't getting, to some of the vocabulary he used. He was from LA (not Los Angeles, Louisiana)... Now the night chapel speaker was AMAZING! He is our seek week chapel speaker in CBU. I can not wait for him to come to CBU! His name is David Platt... Seriously amazing! I bought almost all of his messages this week. I will share if you would like to hear!

The break out seasons were good, a lot of them were on dating... Typical! and there were a few on missions, sexual identity, diversity, and social justice. Over all the break out sessions I went to were pretty good!

The food... Camp food... enough said...

Well it has been a good week and I am ready to be back! Peace

Oh Glorieta! part one!

So I'm at a college student/leaders conference in Glorieta, New Mexico! Man it was a long drive! Well what would have been a twleve hour drive took us two days. I didn't know that traveling with three children would inhibit our ability to drive more then 4 hours with out stopping. It was a good drive but I don't know how I'm going to handle the drive back with the long stops and spending the night, especially since I am moving the day we drive in. I pray that JMo will let one van drive back with out stopping to stay the night in Kingman, AZ.

Well the conference has been good, it's only the first day out of like six, but it's Ok. There are so many white people here! It's a little discouraging! And we are the only people from California here, the rest are primarily from Texas or Oklahoma and for some reason they don't like Californians very much. I haven't discovered why yet? But I am determined to find out! TIme for lunch, I'm out! Peace!
